Regular Events

The normal routine of the Guild's social calendar involves major banquets in the Spring and Autumn, and a range of tastings throughout the year other than the holiday months. A list of last year's activities follows later together with a draft programme for 2007.
Typically at our banquets we have a reception with the opportunity to sample a number of wines, followed by an Intronisation (introduction of new members) where the Toast is given using an English or Welsh wine. It is followed by a five course dinner with one or two wines per course, selected by the Wine Committee. The Social Committee seeks to find prestigious venues worthy of the Guild, and resident or guest chefs to complement the occasion and the wines offered.
Our tastings are mainly at the Sloane Club and are very varied. Tastings of different wine types, grapes, or countries, and at varying price levels make for fascinating insights that are explored with a highly qualified speaker.
We also visit the Beaulieu Estate for a Harvest Thanksgiving every second year and, in between, we organize overseas tours to various wine growing regions. Amongst areas visited in the past are; Beaune, South Africa, Hungary, Rioja and Champagne to name but a few. Three typical summaries are below.
