September
Commencement of Cellarer's Course.
This course is a new initiative for the Guild - we have for some time become increasingly concerned that the majority of wine courses on offer to the public fail to provide the insights needed by interested consumers who wish, for instance, to develop a wine cellar or simply to increase their knowledge and appreciation of wines as a consumer - and that the fun has been taken out of this most pleasurable activity.
This course will run from September to March, with a break over the holiday season, and there will be a tutored session every other week; the expectation is that those who want to gain this sort of understanding will also wish to 'do some homework' with further reading or participation in smaller tasting groups etc. The intensity of this course is not expected to appeal to the majority of our members, although they or their family members will be most welcome. Our soundings suggest that it will have appeal to outsiders and thus, over time, we would expect to introduce more people with at detailed appreciation of wine to our membership. Uniquely, we are basing the majority of tutored sessions around the food you might serve with wine - you will gain knowledge of varieties and regions in the process, and so much more besides and we will never forget that what we want is the maximisation of the pleasure from drinking and serving wine. Each member of the Guild (regardless of date of joining) who completes the course to the satisfaction of the tutors will be recommended to the Guild's Council for recognition as a Cellarer of the Wine Guild. Numbers will be limited to fifteen. Please contact Mike Hildesley for further information.
